Sweet Sammy’s Brochure

Brief

This project’s objective was to plan and create a multi-page booklet in InDesign for Sweet Sammy’s company. I chose appropriate typefaces and color palettes to accomplish this task, fostering legible type on each page. I decided the target audience was businesses and suburban households.

Details

When I think of sweets and desserts, a soft, pastel color palette comes to mind. I like the look of old fashion, 1950s retro café and ice cream parlors. I researched sweet shop color palettes and looked at websites that sold candy, cakes, and ice cream for inspiration.

I created the front-page graphic to mimic a cupcake wrapper with designs on the top edge. The sample pages use contrasting colors to highlight each page’s main word, and I used graphics that shared the same colors.

Party

The party page uses pastel pinks and a muted green to draw attention to the main word – Sparkle. I used a soft canvas texture on the pink elements to create visual interest and match the cake’s texture.

Wedding

The wedding page uses a fun font. The color is similar to the flowers on the cake. The purple hues are an excellent complement to the orange/yellow color.

Ice Cream

The ice cream page features a background with polka dots and a wavy pattern to mimic melting ice cream. The back page offers important contact and social media information.

Summary

Sweet Sammy’s was a fun project to create. I enjoyed researching bakeries, images, and color palettes used for bakeries and sweet shops. My biggest take away from this project was typography and how it can add to a layout in both negative and positive aspects.
