Fabric Patterns
Brief
These fabric swatches are a personal project I started during the 2020 pandemic. I sold masks I made on Etsy, and Dr. Who fabric was trendy but not available for purchase. I decided to create Dr. Who designs and have them printed on fabric. All of my designs were popular sellers in my store. The most challenging pattern was the Dr. Who face because of all the details in the faces and clothes.
I used Illustrator to create the images and Photoshop to create the patterns.
Using Illustrator, I created simple silhouettes from character images. I then created a repeating pattern file with Photoshop and had the image printed onto fabric. This was one of my best selling fabric for masks during 2020. One variation of the pattern included Gallifreyan writing in the background.
Using Illustrator, I outlined the basic Dalek figure and colorized the figures. I used a sans serif font and created the negative space in each line of EXTERMINATE! text.
The Tardis looks like a simple design of squares and rectangles, but this one proved challenging. I used the perspective tool in Illustrator to make this view of a police box. I used Illustrator to create the British flag and Photoshop to clip the image into the Tardis.
In this panel, I used Illustrator to create K-9, the Dalek, the bow tie, the Tardis, the sonic screwdriver, and the cyborg. Using Photoshop’s pattern tool, I was able to create a fun fabric design for masks and other craft items.
This pattern was fun to put together, combining popular Dr. Who characters, icons, and sayings.
In this Pokemon fabric, the art is from my daughter. I took her fan art and created a pattern in Photoshop.
