I was not too fond of Intro to 2D art. I am not a pencil to paper artist, and this class was before my Intro to drawing class, so it was a struggle. The teacher was so picky, critiquing my drawing over the concepts presented in the lessons. But I managed to give her what she wanted and pull out an A. Compared to my daughter’s ability to draw, this is kids stuff ????, But it was a good lesson on how to give the “client” what they want.

From the syllabus:

Course Description

An introduction to visual thinking as well as the elements and principles of design. Concentration on the elements of design through production of artwork using a variety of materials and methods. Emphasis placed on understanding the elements and principles of design and how they integrate to form fully realized works of art. Students will explore composition and selection of subject matter. (Crosslisted with FACS 113)

Rationale

Design is a visual language and a process of visual problem solving. The elements and principles of design are the building blocks used by all artists/designers to create aesthetically pleasing work. Design professionals must cultivate their ability to use these elements and principles in order to reach their creative goals and to explore the many directions an art piece can take. Any discipline that relies upon visual design and aesthetics can benefit from this course.

Balance Project

My theme for this project is based on penguins and snow.  I chose this theme because of the constant chatter in our house regarding the end of the cartoon series, Adventure Time.

Symmetrical:               Penguin.  The Ice King’s sidekick is a penguin.

Asymmetrical:            Ice King’s home and surrounding ice peaks.

Radial:                        A pond surrounded by snow.  The water ripples could be from a fish splashing in the water.

Crystallographic:        The fish a penguin loves to eat.

Feelings and Lines

I don’t have the instructions for this assignment. Basically, we had to create lines that conveyed the provided feelings. I was marked down because my lines were not clean on the tense page. But I still made an A on the project.

Illusion of Space – A Walk in the Park

This assignment featured different perspectives around a theme. I took pictures at our local park and turned them into drawings.
